Christmas collections for Boeing families

Boeing workers, their wives and Newcastle Teachers Association members enjoy a festive meal.
Boeing workers, their wives and Newcastle Teachers Association members enjoy a festive meal.

Boeing Australia workers and their wives, at the frontline in the struggle against the Howard industrial relations agenda, were guests at the Newcastle Teachers Association's Christmas dinner meeting on November 23. Boeing worker Aaron Beasley addressed the meeting.

There are 28 aircraft technicians in dispute with Boeing Australia over its refusal to negotiate a collective agreement for the workers at its Williamtown workplace. The workers are currently on individual contracts. If the matter is not resolved by Christmas Day, the workers will have been on strike for more than 200 days.

Federation continues to offer support to the workers in the lead-up to Christmas.

A gold coin collection at Federation's November Council raised $615 to help buy presents for children of the Boeing workers for Christmas.

Federation General Secretary Barry Johnson attended the meeting to present cheques totalling $2100, which included the funds raised at November Council.

The union has been collecting hamper items donated by Officers, staff and members in schools, so the families of the workers might enjoy a nice meal on Christmas Day.
