Scholarships for student teachers

The Federation will be launching at its 83rd Annual Conference the provision of five scholarships for student teachers.
The Federation will award five scholarships for each year and will be to the value of $2000. While the scholarships are for one year successful applicants can reapply in subsequent years.
The trainee teacher scholarships are a part of the Federation's ongoing commitment to the Public Education system and are open to student teacher members of the Teachers Federation
Student teacher members are welcome to attend the Annual Conference as observers
Criteria for the scholarship
The NSW Teachers Federation Trainee Teacher Scholarship Committee will consider applications according to the following:
- Consideration of financial need, including pressing personal circumstances
- Year 12 academic results of first year applicants and university results from other applicants
- At least one of the successful applicants shall come from rural/remote areas distant from the tertiary institution at which they are studying
- At least one of the successful applicants shall be in their first year of an under-graduate course
- At least one of the successful applicants will be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Demonstrate an understanding of the value of Public Education and role of unions to society such as the NSW Teachers Federation.
The $2,000 Scholarship must be used for education related expenses, e.g. HECS, text-books, computer.

The Conference begins Sunday 8th July and continues to Tuesday 10th July.
The launch of the scholarships will occur on the Tuesday of Conference. Annual Conference will be held at the Masonic Centre Cnr Castlereagh and Goulburn Streets,Sydney.
