Barry Johnson and John Hennessy

Barry Johnson elected General Secretary

Barry Johnson has been elected as the new General Secretary of the NSW Teachers Federation. Barry will replace long standing General Secretary, John Hennessy, who recently announced his retirement.

Barry has served as the Assistant General Secretary (Schools) since 1991 and served as a Country Organiser from 1982-1990. As Assistant General Secretary (Schools), Barry has been responsible for co-ordinating many major Federation events including the Public Education Convention, Public Education Day and many Sky Channel meetings.

Barry began his teaching career at Bingara Central School as a primary school teacher. He taught secondary English and History at Belmont High School and Francis Greenway High School from 1973 -1982.

An election was also held for the position of NSW Teachers Federation Welfare Officer. Rod Brown was elected to fill the position. Rod has previously served as a Federation Welfare Officer and has recently worked in the area of superannuation for teachers.
