Casual , Temporary and Part time Survey
04 November 2004
Important research being undertaken
By John Dixon Assistant General Secretary - Communications & Administration
The Federation's 2004 Term Four Anna Stewart Officers are undertaking a research project exploring the barriers to union membership and/or activity, which casual and temporary teachers experience.
A significant number of teachers have casual or temporary status. Countless numbers of these teachers have been working on a casual or temporary basis for prolonged periods or in some cases for the whole of their careers. Many of these casual and temporary teachers do not see the relevance of the union for them or do not value their own experience as being of relevance to the union.
Often casual teachers have little continuity of contact with the union due to having a variety of workplaces. This group of teachers is an untapped wealth of experience and knowledge who perhaps have not previously seen themselves as activists.
The Anna Stewart Officers would like to hear from Casual and Temporary teachers in schools and Part-time Casual teachers in TAFE colleges, to gain a broader understanding of issues relating to these teachers' experiences.
Please encourage all Casual and Temporary teachers, whether union members or not, to complete the survey. The survey can also be accessed at the link below.
