Settlement in Corrective Services07 December 2004By John Dixon Assistant General Secretary -Communications & Administration The Federation welcomes a settlement of a salary dispute with the Department of Corrective Services for 31 Senior Correctional Education Officers (SCEOs) employed in the state's prisons. Maree O'Halloran, President of the New South Wales Teachers Federation said today: "The Federation welcomes a settlement of a salary dispute with the Department of Corrective Services for 31 Senior Correctional Education Officers (SCEOs) employed in the state's prisons." The SCEOs will receive a further 3% increases from 24 August without any trade-offs. "The Federation's claim for the flow on to all promotions positions was resisted strenuously by the Government but the Industrial Relations Commission found the Federation had made its case for an increase and had directed the Department and Federation to negotiate on the amount." "This settlement now puts the onus on Education Minister Refshauge to reject the flawed advice he has been receiving, stop wasting Government money on a futile exercise in the Industrial Relations Commission and direct his officers to reach a settlement with the Teachers Federation on the remaining promotions positions." "Teachers in promotions positions in Bradfield College, AMES, Saturday School, National Art School, Board of Studies Officers, HSC/SC Markers , Consultants and TAFE have not received the additional increases paid to their colleagues in schools." "The Teachers Federation has always been willing to talk - it's the Government's intransigence that has led to the current impasse," Ms O'Halloran said.
