Student Reports - Faxstream to schools
27 September 2006
Federation has consistently maintained that the federal and state governments' reporting requirements are educationally unsound. The further round of changes announced in the Director-General's memorandum of 26 September 2006 does not remove those unsound requirements.
Federation rejects that memorandum and the new requirements.
The changes purport to provide schools with a "choice" between "A to E" grades or the words "Outstanding to Limited". In fact every report must still contain a statement that "Outstanding to Limited" equates to "A to E".
The campaign continues
- The State Government/DET have been forced to announce a further round of changes because of the pressure of this campaign. More can be achieved.
- The Federation's Sydney Morning Herald advertisements with members' names are scheduled for the start of Term 4.
- Federation's professional advice and direction that schools maintain their current reporting system for 2006 remains in place.
Federation will call immediate, statewide industrial action if any member faces disciplinary action for following Federation's advice
- Federation is demanding that the use of "A to E" terminology be at the school's discretion with a range of other options made available in a negotiated agreement for 2007. Federation also specifically rejects:
a) mandatory implementation in 2006
b) the so-called "A to E" equivalency statement
c) the re-imposition of the requirements for KLAs other than Maths and English In Years 1 and 2.
- Federation Executive will meet in Week 1, Term 4 to consider the placing of bans.
- The Industrial Relations Commission made a direction on Friday, 22 September before the new changes were announced. That direction can be downloaded below. The report back is scheduled for 9 October 2006.
