Condobolin teachers stop work

Condobolin teachers stop work

Teachers from Condobolin High School and Condobolin Public School stopped work today to protest against the State government's inability to provide the community with casual and temporary teachers.

Teachers and parents are tired of disruptions to the education of their kids when teachers fall ill, are away on training development activities or supervising students on sporting and cultural excursions.

Teachers have complained about having to collapse classes and having to teach close to 40 students in the one room. Without casual teachers, schools are forced to either supply minimal supervision in the playground or split the students amongst other classes, disrupting the education of our students.

Condobolin Teachers Association President, teacher and parent, Sonja-Gai Honeysett said:

"Disruption to lesson delivery is a daily occurrence here in Condobolin. We are desperate for casual and temporary staff. My biggest fear is that it will only get worse now that the Iemma government has enforced its poor staffing policies upon our rural and isolated community.

Without an industrial instrument to protect incentive transfers, teachers believe our transfers are next to go. We?ve never had so many teachers want to leave all at once."
