Batlow teachers stop work over staffing

Teachers at Batlow Technology Central School walked off the job today to continue their protest against the state government arbitrarily imposing changes to the way schools are staffed.

Batlow School is a four point non-incentive transfer school. This means that teachers at Batlow have now effectively lost the transfer points they have accumulated whilst teaching at the school.

Batlow Teachers Association Secretary, Tony McDonnell, said:

"Teachers at Batlow have been betrayed by this government. What is Batlow going to be left with if teachers choose not to apply for jobs here knowing they may never get back to the more favourable areas? Its not fair on our school or on our students."

It is quite possible that if teachers choose not to apply for jobs at Batlow for fear of not being able to secure a later transfer, the school may be left without enough qualified teachers to cover all classes or they may have to restrict their subject choices for students in the high school, or class sizes may increase.
