Media blitz against Staffing changes

16 May 2008
By

John Dixon, Assistant General Secretary - Communications & Administration

The Federation, in the run-up to this week's industrial action on Thursday 22nd May, has resumed its extensive media campaign on Television, Radio and in the major newspapers in opposition to the DET's unilateral changes to staffing and qualifications.

The media campaign will highlight the DET's grossly irresponsible approach on the staffing of schools across the state by its unilateral policy changes.

The staffing campaign is a campaign for fairness and equity, for stability and security, for teachers and students in NSW public schools.

Members' commitment is evident across the full range of schools. In cities and towns along the coast, in regional centres and country towns, and in the most isolated rural locations, teachers took industrial action in defence of their rights at work and their students' rights to be taught by qualified teachers.

Those with experience and qualifications in education do understand what damage will be done by the changed procedures. Despite the media spin and the letters from the Director-General sent with his 'best regards', teachers know that the staffing procedures of the 2005-08 industrial agreement ensured teacher supply across the entire state.
