TAFE teachers protest rally today

08 May 2008

Demonstration at Farrer Place

TAFE teachers will demonstrate outside the NSW Department of Education and Training, Farrer Place, Bent Street, Sydney at 12.30pm today over the State government's attempts to downgrade TAFE. The government has increased TAFE student fees; moved to downgrade the teacher education qualifications for TAFE teachers and is pushing through a disastrous restructure of TAFE under the mantra of doing business in the 21st Century.

Speakers include Maree O'Halloran, Federation President, Linda Simon, TAFE TA Secretary, and Michaela Kronemann, Research Consultant.

At 10.30am at the TAFE Teachers Association Council, Federation Conference Centre, Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, Ms Kronemann will launch the report on research she has conducted on the impact of the increase in TAFE student fees on the student population in NSW. The media are welcome to attend this launch.

Ms Kronemann said:

"The majority of TAFE students in NSW are paying high and inequitable fees relative to students in other states."
