Newcastle TAFE stopwork 18 May 2008Supporting Aboriginal Special Program Coordinators By Malcolm Ogg TAFE organiser
On Tuesday 13 May, over 50 members met outside the Hunter Institute Director's office under the tree of knowledge in protest at the restructure of the Purrimaibahn Aboriginal Unit. Doing Business in the 21st Century, Hunter style, means attacking the working conditions of Aboriginal Special Program Coordinators. Further, members called on the Institute Director to work positively with the Aboriginal Special Programs Coordinators to develop programs that meet the needs of the local indigenous community. Members determined that if the matter is not resolved by Tuesday 20 May, then a further stopwork will be held at 12 noon to consider further action.
