TAFE teachers protest at NSW Parliament 18 June 2008Rally at 1.30 pm Thursday 19 June By Maxine Sharkey TAFE Organiser TAFE teachers from Sydney metropolitan colleges will be rallying outside State Parliament on Thursday 19 June at 1.30 pm, calling on their local Members of Parliament to support their campaign for proper teaching qualifications for TAFE teachers. TAFE teachers in Broken Hill are also demonstrating their solidarity by stopping work at this time as well. TAFE teachers are angry at the failure of the State Government to enter into proper negotiations with the Federation about the proposed downgrading of TAFE teacher education qualifications and the Government's opposition to the matter being arbitrated in the Industrial Relations Commission. There will be further action around the state and the rally on Thursday is just the start. Education Minister, John Della Bosca told Parliament that he supported the matter being heard by the Industrial Relations Commission. TAFE teachers question the Government's strategies which are leaving them no option but to take increased industrial action.
