Rob Long addresses the rally

TAFE teachers from Sydney metropolitan colleges stopped work and rallied outside State Parliament on 19 June to protest the State Government's intention to downgrade full time TAFE teaching qualifications from university level to Certificate IV.
Teachers called on their local Members of Parliament to support their campaign to have this decision overturned.
Rob Long, TAFE Teachers Association President, reminded members of the Government's recent record on TAFE. Student fees have been increased, a disastrous restructure aimed particularly at access and equity areas is being proposed and the qualifications issue would undermine TAFE teachers' professionalism.
Phil Bradley, Assistant General Secretary, Post School Education, urged members to continue the campaign and lobby the Minister and their local members.
