When the Minister Verity Firth, and the local member for Monaro Steve Whan visited Cooma TAFE College on Wednesday 27th May 2009 they were met by protesting teachers who presented them with a letter. "No Minister" Cooma TAFE teachers protest when Minister visits their College. When the Minister Verity Firth, and the local member for Monaro Steve Whan visited Cooma TAFE College on Wednesday 27th May 2009 they were met by protesting teachers who presented them with a letter. The letter contained a motion which had been carried unanimously at a Branch meeting earlier that day. "We are disappointed that proposals made by the Teachers Federation to provide a fair and reasonable resolution to settlement of the TAFE Award by mutual agreement have been rejected." We believe these proposals would have provided the necessary costs savings and reform measures to fund agreed salary increases beyond 2.5% per annum." "TAFE Teachers at Cooma say NO to Department of Education and Training proposals that the Award be finalised by teachers delivering an extra 57 teaching hours per year, the equivalent of three additional teaching weeks per year." "We also oppose changes proposed by the Department that remove limits on weekly teaching hours, and the abolition of professional development time for related employee classifications such as education officers." Teachers at Cooma made it very clear that their response to DET plans was "NO Minister"!
