Honk and Holler : TAFE protest

24 June 2009

TAFE teachers gather support from passing motorists outside Ultimo TAFE

Approximately 50 full time and part time casual teachers attended a lunch time protest on the steps outside Ultimo TAFE College on Tuesday.

The protest was organised by Ultimo Teachers Federation Branch 3 to send a message to local management, TAFE NSW and the Minister Verity Firth.

The message - 'TAFE teachers say NO to 57 extra hours teaching' was chanted loudly, accompanied by a chorus of car horns, as traffic in busy Harris St responded to the simple banner 'Honk if you support TAFE teachers'.

Members of Branch 3 resolved to take further action next semester if the department maintained the proposition of teachers working additional hours to justify a minor alteration to TAFE teachers' overall pay rates.
