Distance Education
Request for Information
By Michelle Rosicky
The Distance Education Restricted Committee (DERC) is a Federation committee elected for a two-year period; its members represent the full range of distance education delivery providers, including autonomous Distance Education Centres (DECs), city and country, integrated country DECs, a specialised DEC and a primary DE school.
This meeting is a valuable forum to inform Federation on such issues as how these schools operate, the clientele involved and the teaching conditions affecting members.
Currently the DERC is addressing concerns resulting from the 2009 distance education review and the recent merger of the Centre for Learning Innovation (CLI) and the Curriculum Directorate, both of which will affect teachers and students at these schools. Other questions the committee is posing in order to address these issues include:
- how is the closure of the CLI affecting the delivery of teaching resources?
- how will it affect workload and teacher quality in the future?
- how is the increased use of technology currently affecting individual teaching?
The Restricted Committee needs to know. Send your concerns and issues to mail@nswtf.org.au and mark them "Attention: DERC". The committee meets once a term around weeks 6 or 7.
The two Federation Officers attached to work with this committee are City Organiser Michelle Rosicky and Country Organiser Noel Creenaune.
