Migrant & Multicultural

Federation held a highly successful forum of ESL and Community Languages teachers through the Federation’s Migrant and Multicultural SIG on Tuesday 21st May.

The forum provided information on the impact of Local Schools/ Local Decisions on the provison of ESL and Community languages programs.

More than 2000 specialist ESL and community language teachers’ jobs are at risk under the NSW Government’s Local School, Local Decisions. Currently, ESL and community language teacher staffing entitlements are allocated to public schools annually through the collection of surveys and data on student need. Federation understands that as of next year, when the Government’s devolution agenda is due to be implemented, the staffing entitlements for ESL and community language will not be allocated in the same way, thus jeopardising those students’ educational outcomes, support for their programs and the employment of their teachers.

If you have not had an opportunity as yet to fill in a survey for your community languages program or ESL entitlement, please send this back to us as soon as possible. They are attached below.
