Record of School Achievement
The NSW Teachers Federation supports the general direction of the Record of School Achievement but is concerned about reports suggesting it is only a literacy and numeracy test.
Joan Lemaire, Senior Vice President of the NSW Teachers Federation said today:
“Contrary to some media reports the Record of School Achievement is not a new test. The literacy and numeracy tests are optional.
“The literacy and numeracy tests will only measure a very limited range of skills which the Federation has been advised won’t be reported in the Record of School Achievement.
“The Federation has supported the general direction of the Record of School Achievement because for many years there has been a need for students leaving before the HSC to have a credential which reflects their achievements to that point. The Board of Studies commitment to ongoing consultation about the implementation of the Record of School Achievement and the optional literacy and numeracy tests is welcomed by the Federation.
“The Record of School Achievement has not addressed the need for the government to provide additional support for all the students who are staying on until they reach the new and increased compulsory leaving age of 17. The Government must employ additional teachers to ensure these students have the curriculum choices they need to achieve their best.”
