President of the Teachers Federation, Maurie Mulheron said:

“We welcome the first comprehensive funding review of schools undertaken in thirty years, and the enormous effort put into it by Mr Gonski, the review panel, and especially the public and stakeholders who made over 7000 submissions.

“This report and its recommendations are so important to the future of this nation that they must be supported by all politicians: ALP, Coalition, Greens, Independents. It is imperative they not become a political football.

“What is clear is that resources delayed are resources denied. The underfunding of our public schools cannot be allowed to continue.

“The Federation welcomes recommendations related to an explicit resource standard, a national approach to funding being adopted, significant additional funding and an independent  national advisory body.

“We call on all state and federal politicians, across all parties, to work together in the common interest of Australian school children.”

Angelo Gavrielatos, Federal President of the Ausralian Education Union said:

"The Gonski Review report reveals the urgent need for the reform of school funding arrangements and an investment of at least an extra $3.8 billion a year in public schools."

He said that the report exposes the dysfunctional and inequitable nature of the current school funding arrangements.
