New teacher seminars
The Federation conducts two hour seminars for new teachers at various venues around New South Wales. These seminars are often conducted in conjunction with local teacher associations.
The NSW Teachers Federartion is an endorsed provider of Institute Registered professional development for the maintenance of Professional Competence.
New Teacher Seminar 1 - Professional competence: maintaining accreditation, classroom management and networking
This two hour course intended for teachers in their first years of employment covers the requirements for attaining professional competence and maintaining accreditation at Professional Competence Level.
The course is divided into three segments, each addressing one of the NSWIT Standards, 5.2.5, 6.2.2 and 6.2.6.
New Teacher Seminar 2 – Gaining and maintaining professional competence with the NSW Institute of Teachers for new teachers and school executive
This two hour course intended for teachers in their first years of employment or school executive and teacher mentors who assist new teachers.
The course looks at the requirements for attaining and maintaining accreditation at Professional Competence Level with the NSW Institute of Teachers.
The participants will be divided into two groups those who are assisting new teachers, and the new teachers.
The course is delivered face to face and includes practical activities where teachers, in discussions with colleagues match teaching tasks, processes and professional work with the NSW Institute of Teaching Standards.
The school executive and teacher mentors will work through the processes and share ideas, used in supporting new scheme teachers. Then we will go through the actual processes of helping a teacher to reach professional competence with the NSW Institute of Teachers, and then how to assist teacher the teacher in then maintenance of their accreditation.
The course addresses NSWIT Standards 6.2.2, 6.2.3 and 6.2.4.
New Teacher Seminar 3 - Professional competence : maintaining accreditation, planning and programming workshops for primary & secondary teachers
This two hour course intended for teachers in their first few years of employment covers the requirements for attaining professional competence and maintaining accreditation at Professional Competence Level.
The course also includes:
Planning and Programming workshops for Secondary and Primary teachers.
The course is delivered in face to face mode and includes two sessions of one hour each covering accreditation and programming/planning respectively.
This seminar addresses NSWIT standards 1.2.1, 1.2.3, 2.2.3, 2.2.5, 3.2.1, 3.2.2, 3.2.3 and 3.2.4
New Teacher Seminar 4 - Developing a curriculum vitae & documents for school positions seminar
A two hour seminar to develop the participants writing and presentation skills in applying for work in schools. Participants will develop a Curriculum Vitae that reflects their professional work and learning for presentation to principals and school personnel.
Presenters will provide models of Curriculum Vitaes and professional documents, and work with participants to develop their individual materials. Participants will reflect on the NSWIT standards in the areas of Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Commitment in developing their documents.
This seminar addresses NSWIT standards 6.2.2, 6.2.5, 6.2.6 and 7.2.6.
