Federation Campaign for TAFE

The TAFE TA Annual General Meeting and Federation Council endorsed a resolution on 1/2 June to campaign strongly for TAFE nationally. Serious concern was expressed around the lack of response by both the Federal Government and Labor Opposition to the funding requirements for TAFE, especially during budget week.

Concerns were expressed particularly around:
* Federal Government vouchers for students
* three additional Australian Technical Colleges announced in budget
* the introduction of FEE-HELP, an income contingent loans scheme for students in Dipoloma and Advanced Diploma courses
* the proposal by the Federal Minister Andrew Robb for 'old-style dedicated technical schools'
* the Federal Government proposal to fund student places rather than teaching hours

The Federation will campaign around the Australian Education Union's claim for TAFE (to be launched soon), and will undertake research around the Australian Technical Colleges.
