TUT courses- the application process
Who can attend a TUT Course?
Any financial Federation member is eligible to apply to attend Trade Union Training.
The TUT Program is printed for a whole semester at a time, and each course has an advertised closing date. All applications received up to the close of business on the advertised closing date for any course are considered for placement in that course.
Who will be selected to attend a TUT Course?
TUT aims for a maximum of 20 - 22 participants for each Federation course. In selecting participants, preference is given to Federation Representatives, Women's Contact Persons and Association Officers. Every effort is made to achieve a balance between infants/primary and secondary and to provide access to courses to members in TAFE and AMES. Federation also aims to provide 60 per cent of places to women members. We reserve the right to give priority to applicants able to contribute to the union and who've shown a commitment to supporting Federation policies and campaigns.
All Officers within the education portfolio are covered. This includes casual/part-time teachers in the TAFE Commission and the Adult Migrant Education Service who have an ongoing daytime program (that is, it has extended beyond 12 months or is of an anticipated duration of at least 12 months) of at least 15 hours teaching per week.
How do you apply to attend a TUT Course?
Download the Application Form, fill it out and forward it to Federation by fax or mail. Details of fax number and mailing address are included on the application form. Following the closing date for applications we will advise you in writing if you've been accepted into the course and provide you with a "letter of authority", to be attached to your departmental form applying for "leave to attend Trade Union Training". Federation will also send other information about travel and so on, where required.
Federation will also advise you in writing if your application has been unsuccessful.
What must I do when I receive advice that I've been accepted into a TUT Course?
Let the TUT Office know immediately if you aren't able to attend. This will allow your place to be offered to another member.
Let your principal know when you receive advice from Federation that you have been accepted into the course and indicate that casual relief can be organised to replace you and that Federation covers this cost.
