Head Start teachers resist new training
Sessions on literacy pushed by Bush

Officials at Head Start programs across the country say they are being pressured by the Bush administration to learn and use literacy techniques that many teachers don't want or need.
Administration officials said they are not forcing anyone to take the training and have not violated the "local control" provisions of the law that governs Head Start. The agency has provided comprehensive developmental services to low-income preschoolers and their families since 1965.
