TAFE salaries

- Faxstream to all colleges -

It is important that all members be aware that the Federation has been actively pursuing the full flow on of salary increases to all members, including additional increases for promotions positions arising from the Catholic school teacher employer's late and unexpected submission for 3% to 7.5% extra for their promotions positions.

At a meeting on 18 June 2004 with the Director-General, the Federation specifically raised the issue of TAFE Head Teachers being included in the offer for additional salary increases. The Department’s subsequent offer for additional increases for promotions positions did not include Head Teachers in TAFE. The Department rejected Federation’s proposal to “include TAFE Head Teachers in a consent Award variation.”

On 28 June 2004 the Federation wrote to the Minister Dr Refshauge and advised him of our requirement for a promotions positions flow on for “all classifications in TAFE other than those on the common incremental scale”

On 29 June 2004 the Federation sent another letter to the Minister restating the claim for a flow on in TAFE and urged the Carr Government to consent to the additional increases for Head Teachers.

The Federation has continued to negotiate a flow on of increases to all members, including at meetings held on 8 and 26 July 2004 with the Department’s General Manager Industrial Relations and Employment Services, Mr Peter Riordan and on 19 July 2004 with the Minister, Dr Refshauge.

Federation has indicated that these increases must be without negative changes to conditions and must be fully funded by Treasury.

Increased salary and pay rates already awarded in TAFE are attached.

Yours sincerely,
Barry Johnson
General Secretary
