At its meeting on Saturday 19 November, the Federation Council determined to lift the ban on the Year 10 Computing Skills Assessment Test 2006.
This follows the hearing in the N.S.W. Industrial Relations Commission in which the Department of Education and Training has been asked to gather and provide, to the Industrial Relations Commission and the Federation, information on the technology availability to implement the test. This includes the number of computers available on a school by school basis, the availability of appropriate software and the availability of technical support.
The Federation is optimistic that the provision of this information by the Department of Education and Training will assist further discussions about the adequacy of resourcing to teach the ICT competencies, which are to be tested in the 2006 Computer Skills Assessment.
The Federation continues to call upon the Minister, Ms Carmel Tebbutt, to defer the proposed mandatory nature of the test for 2006.
The matter returns to the Industrial Relations Commission on 22 November 2005.
