Fund and preserve Safe Schools: Federation calls on NSW Govt

The federal government’s announcement of plans to restrict the content and operation of the Safe Schools program has dismayed teachers, LGBTIQ advocates and allies.

Research shows there are negative academic and life outcomes for LGBTIQ youth who do not receive adequate support and who are often bullied and harassed at school.

In a statement made on March 20, Federation President Maurie Mulheron called on NSW Premier Mike Baird and Education Minister Adrian Piccoli to follow the lead of the Victorian and ACT governments and fund Safe Schools in order to preserve the full program for students in NSW.
