Federation questions new social media policy

Federation will write to the NSW Department of Education to seek clarification about the recently updated Social Media Policy and Social Media Policy Implementation Guidelines.

The policy updates, which were published on the Department’s website on July 7 and then promoted via the ‘Learning Systems’ Twitter account on July 19, were not discussed with Federation prior to publication.

Federation will be seeking to clarify some of the language used in the policy, particularly as it pertains to the newly introduced classifications of ‘Professional’ and ‘Personal’ use of social media, and the interactions between the social media policy and other Departmental policies.

Once Federation has met with the Department over these issues, the union will update its advice to teachers regarding social media.
