Federation looks forward to establishing a positive relationship with new Secretary of the NSW Department of Education, Mark Scott.
The union's President Maurie Mulheron and General Secretary John Dixon congratulated Mr Scott on his appointment in a letter sent today.
"The Federation looks forward to…working together in the interests of the students and teachers of this state and attending to the real needs of the public education system," the letter states.
Mr Scott worked at Fairfax publications in editorial and executive roles before moving to the ABC, where he spent the past decade as managing director.
Mr Scott has previously tweeted he is a “Strong supporter" of the full funding of the Gonski needs-based funding model.
Mr Scott replaces Michele Bruniges, who is now Secretary of the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.
