SONiA gig to celebrate marriage equality law

From the Sydney Opera House to bomb shelters in the Middle East and now Teachers Federation House in Surry Hills, multi-faceted artist SONiA will perform a special concert for Federation to celebrate the passage through Parliament of the marriage equality legislation.

This Friday, 15 December, the award-winning singer-songwriter – who has performed with Bruce Springsteen, Peter, Paul and Mary, Chris Thile, Green Day, John Gallagher Jr, John Fullbright, Sheryl Crow, Pete Seeger, Pansy Division and many more – will present her creations to members in the Heritage Room from 7.30pm.

A review in the Chicago Daily Herald said: “Her songs are a vivid celebration of the human spirit in all its infinite manifestations; her music has a singular sound that makes labeling and categorising a waste of time.”

SONiA has received the GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian Music Awards) for Female Artist of the Year and the GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian American Anti-Defamation) Award for Best Album. Writing songs in Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, German and in multiple genres from blues to Middle Eastern to country and western, she has sold more than a million units.

SONiA’s latest double CD LIVE at MAXiMAL was in the first round running Grammy for Folk Album of the year and received the nomination for Best Live Album by the Independent Music Awards.
