Australian National Committee for UN Women - Webinar
On December 1st, the Australian National Committee for UN Women have partnered with Avanade to host a Breaking Barriers Webinar, which aims to encourage young women, in late high school or university, to pursue careers in STEM fields. The Webinar explores the issue of the vast underrepresentation of women in STEM and highlights the many benefits that would result if this problem was addressed. Through the Webinar, the Australian National Committee and Avanade hope to encourage and nurture young women’s interest in STEM and to provide them with advice and inspiration to assist with the pursuit of a career in one of these diverse and exciting fields.
Rosemary Richards Scholarship
The Australian Education Union funds a scholarship valued at up to $10 000 a year for a woman member of the AEU (including the NSW Teachers Federation) to increase her skills and experience in her activism and union work.
The scholarship honours the memory of Rosemary Richards, a proud feminist, unionist and educator, and her significant contribution to the AEU and its women members.
More information and applications are now available for 2017.
Trade Union Training
The NSW Teachers Federation runs a Women’s Fundamentals course to equip women holders of the positions of Federation Representative and Women’s Contact (and workplace committee members where spaces are available) with skills and knowledge relevant to their role. In addition, at least 50 percent of places in all trade union training courses are prioritised for women applicants.
Special leave and casual release are available to allow participation in most courses. Information about locations and dates of current courses is available from Trade Union Training.
Anna Stewart Program
The Anna Stewart Program is available to support women members in developing their activism in the union. Successful applicants have the opportunity to be released from school for two weeks to observe the work of the union or for a whole term to work on a special project. Applications are assessed by the Women’s and Anna Stewart Program Committee.
