The Department of Education conducts a range of training for public school teachers on various topics which can be accessed via My PL@Edu

Curriculum support for PDHPE conducted the course “Teaching Sexual Health Phase 2: Inclusive Practices” focuses on building the capacity of teachers to provide inclusive sexual health education which caters for diversity in the classroom. It provided strategies for addressing homophobic bullying in schools and boys and girls education strategies.

Family Planning NSW
Family Planning has developed a range of programs and resources that support teachers in helping their students learn about reproductive and sexual health. Available courses and teaching resources can be found via their Teachers webpage.

Same Difference

The Same Difference educational program delivers sexual and gender diversity sessions for secondary school students and teachers. The sessions utilise interactive education techniques, with activities relating to discrimination, homophobia and transphobia and developing a safe and supportive environment for same-sex attracted and gender diverse young people.

The Gender Centre

The Gender Centre is committed to educating the public and service providers about the needs of people with gender issues. They specifically aim to provide a high quality education and training service, which acknowledges human rights and ensures respect and confidentiality for all involved. Online resources are available through their website and they can provide individually tailored training sessions.

Safe Schools Coalition

Safe Schools Coalition Australia is a national coalition of organisations and schools working together to create safe and inclusive school environments for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, staff and families. It is funded by the Australian Government and convened nationally by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA).

Safe Schools Coalition provides tailored professional development for member schools, including whole staff presentations, specialised training modules and workshops. Sessions can be adapted to the needs of the school and range from introductory sessions through to in-depth training around more complex issues. Training materials draw upon national and international research and best practice to give teachers and other school staff insight, ideas and confidence.

Twenty10 conducts various training packages for people working with young people of diverse genders, sexualities and/or intersex status. Information can be found on in the training section of their website.

Here and Now is Twenty10’s one day, core LGBTIQ inclusivity training package which explores how better practice principles assist in working with young people of diverse genders, sexualities and/or intersex status. It introduces the latest research and thinking around inclusive practices as well as strategies to challenge homophobia, transphobia and heteronormativity.

In-House and Tailored Training
Twenty10 can specifically design a training package for individual schools modelled to address specific needs and challenges, budget and timeframe.
