New Teacher Seminars

The Federation conducts two hour seminars for new teachers at various venues around New South Wales. These seminars are often conducted in conjunction with local teacher associations.

The NSW Teachers Federartion is an endorsed provider of Board of Studies, Teaching & Educational Standards (BOSTES) registered professional development for the maintenance of Proficient level in the Australian Professional Teaching Standards.

New Teacher Seminar 1 – Gaining and maintaining the Proficient Level with BOSTES for new teachers and school executive

This two hour seminar intended for teachers in their first years of employment or school executive and teacher mentors who assist new teachers.

The seminar looks at the requirements for attaining and maintaining accreditation at Proficient level with BOSTES.

The participants will be divided into two groups those who are assisting new teachers, and the new teachers.

The seminar is delivered face to face and includes practical activities where teachers, in discussions with colleagues match teaching tasks, processes and professional work with the Australian Professional Teaching Standards at Proficient Level.

The school executive and teacher mentors will work through the processes and share ideas, used in supporting new scheme teachers. Then we will go through the actual processes of helping a teacher to reach Proficient level with BOSTES, and then how to assist teacher the teacher in then maintenance of their accreditation.

    Completing a New Teacher Seminar – Gaining & Maintaining Proficient Level with BOSTES will contribute 2 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 6.1.2, 6.3.2, 7.2.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.    

 

New Teacher Seminar 2 - Proficient Level and maintenance accreditation, planning and programming workshops for primary & secondary teachers

This two hour seminar intended for teachers in their first few years of employment covers the requirements for attaining and maintaining accreditation at Proficient Level with BOSTES.

The seminar also includes:
Planning and Programming workshops for Secondary and Primary teachers.

The course is delivered in face to face mode and includes two sessions of one hour each covering accreditation and programming/planning respectively.

    Completing a New Teacher Seminar – Proficient Level and maintenance accreditation, planning and programming workshops for primary & secondary teachers will contribute 2 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 2.2.2, 6.1.2, 6.3.2, 7.2.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.    

 

New Teacher Seminar 3 - Working as a teacher and accreditation and maintenance at Proficient Level with BOSTES

This is a two hour seminar aimed at providing new teachers with essential knowledge and understanding regarding:

  • requirements for attaining and maintaining accreditation at Proficient Level with BOSTES,
  • workplace responsibilities and entitlements as a teacher, and
  • practical ideas and networking to support professional practice.
    Completing a New Teacher Seminar – Working as a teacher and accreditation and maintenance at Proficient Level with BOSTES will contribute 2 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 6.1.2, 7.2.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards Accreditation in NSW.    

 

New Teacher Seminar 4 - Developing a curriculum vitae & documents for school positions

A two hour seminar to develop the participants writing and presentation skills in applying for work in schools. Participants will develop a Curriculum Vitae that reflects their professional work and learning for presentation to principals and school personnel.

Presenters will provide models of Curriculum Vitaes and professional documents, and work with participants to develop their individual materials. Participants will reflect on the  Australian Professional Teaching Standards in the areas of Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Commitment in developing their documents.

    Completing a New Teacher Seminar – Developing a curriculum vitae & documents for school positions will contribute 2 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 6.2.5, 6.2.6, 6.3.2, 7.2.6 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards Accreditation in NSW.    

 

New Teacher Seminar 5 - Communicating with our Communities

This seminar focuses on communicating in written and verbal form with parents/care givers, an integral aspect of a teacher's professional work. The seminar will look at the various forms of interaction that occurs between home and school including paper and electronic forms of communication.

Focus will be made on the professional image and dialogue that needs to be maintained in such communications. One part of the session will also focus on the legal issues that surround such communications.

Delivery will be a face to face presentation and includes discussion, evaluation and feed back from the participants during the sessions.

    Completing a New Teacher Seminar – Communicating with Our Communities will contribute 2 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 6.1.2, 6.3.2, 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
