Federation’s Film Festival for WorldPride 2023

Are you looking for a creative activity to engage your students across key learning areas in terms 3 and 4?

Federation is inviting NSW public schools to produce short student-made films that may feature in the NSW Teachers Federation’s WorldPride Film Festival in 2023!

This is just one of many events Federation will be organising to support inclusive education for all students and teachers as part of the WorldPride celebrations.

Sydney is hosting WorldPride 2023 with the theme: Gather Dream Amplify

Schools may wish to choose one or all themes for WorldPride2023 for their film entry. Film genres may include documentaries, mockumentaries, stop motion, claymation and many more!

Who can enter?
This is an exciting opportunity for NSW public schools to submit school, class and/or individual entries. There are two categories schools can enter:

  • Years K–6 students
  • Years 7–12 students.

Participants do not need to identify as part of the LGBTIQA+ community.

Submissions deadline
Friday 25 November 2022 (term 4, week 7)

Films must be submitted via the online form.

There is no participation fee.

Guidelines to get you started
Films must be:

  • no longer than five minutes, including credits
  • G-rated
  • abide by copyright laws
  • .mp4 format, 1920x1080, 25fps

Selection criteria
When selecting the successful films for screening at the festival in 2023, the selection committee will consider:

  • originality
  • cinematography
  • costume design
  • storyline
  • student performances.

The selection committee will endeavour to be inclusive and select films that reflect the range of ages and abilities of students creating the films. All selections made by the committee are final.

Schools will be notified via email if their film(s) will be screened at the festival.

Festival screenings
Friday 17 February 2023 (term 1, week 3, 2023)
NSW Teachers Federation’s auditorium, 37 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, Sydney

Matinee: 11am
Premiere: 6pm

Bookings will open in term 4, week 10.
