Federation members and their supporters can contribute to this campaign by:
- wearing red on Wednesday.June 20, ‘Red For Refugees’ to show your support for refugees
- taking a photograph of yourself and/or your colleagues with the #RedForRefugees hashtag along with statements of support
- tweeting your photos to @TurnbullMalcolm, @PeterDutton_MP and/or local state and federal MP or posting them on facebook with the hashtag #RedForRefugees.

Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to raise awareness about issues affecting refugees and to celebrate positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Celebrated since 1986, Refugee Week coincides with World Refugee Day (June 20) and once again Federation is a proud supporter of Refugee Week 2018. More than 90 per cent of refugee children and young people attend our NSW public schools and TAFE colleges.
This year’s theme is #WithRefugees.
In line with the decision of Federation’s Senior Officers on 14 May, Federation members are urged to participate in the Red for Refugees action on Wednesday 20 June, World Refugee Day.
Refugee Week 2018 Theme
#WithRefugees is the theme for Refugee Week 2018 in Australia.
Today, more than ever, we need a global movement to demand the safety and rights of refugees are protected.
In Australia, it is the responsibility of our Government, and each one of us to ensure people forced to flee from their homes can live with dignity and with hope.
Global displacement has reached a record high of 65.3 million people who have been forced to leave their homes, an increase of 4.8 million people since last year. Each year, UNHCR releases statistics on the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide, including refugees, internally displaced people, people seeking asylum and stateless people.
One in every 113 people globally is now either an asylum-seeker, internally displaced or a refugee.
To put this number in perspective, the number of people forcibly displaced is greater than the populations of Australia and New Zealand and Canada combined.

The Staging Post – Showing times
The Staging Post is a refugee story made by Khadim Dai. Four times Khadim tried to get a boat to Australia. On the fourth time his sister rang and told him that Australia had changed the laws, he would be locked up on a deserted island. He returned to Cisarua, met Muzafar outside the UNHCR office in Indonesia, and started filming his life on his mobile phone.
