Union connects with new teachers in the outback

New Federation members are praising the one-day Beginning Teachers Conference they attended in Broken Hill at the weekend.

Members wrote:

  • “It was a valuable conference, with lots of information, especially for a new teacher.”
  • “It was very informative and made me feel more comfortable with my position, being a beginner teacher.”
  • “It was informative, welcoming and answered all my questions and more! It was also really engaging and inspirational.”

Training covered how to gain accreditation in NSW public schools and the maintenance of Proficient Teacher accreditation.

New teachers were interested to learn how to maximise their employment opportunities as a casual/temporary teacher and gain a permanent position.

Other popular sessions covered working conditions for full-time, temporary and casual teachers; and planning and programming lessons.

The conference provided new teachers the opportunity to network with other new teachers and learn how they can participate in their union through their local teachers association.
