Our children and young people are experiencing the greatest number of wars and conflicts since World War Two. The politics of fear and division arising from this see many in our own communities experiencing inequality and alienation.
The right to be well-educated and to live in environments free from fear and conflict is fundamental to achieving sustainable peace. It is also through education that we hope to eliminate racism, remove the structural barriers that deny equal rights and implement the necessary supports that enable all to achieve to their potential.
As a social justice union, we must keep advocating for policies that promote human rights for all.
The Australian Government must uphold the United Nations conventions to which it is a signatory and enact legislation and polices that promote peace, not war. That’s why the theme for the 2025 Palm Sunday rally and march for peace and refugees is ‘Educate for Peace!’
The rallies on Sunday 13 April are important annual events supported by Federation and members are encouraged to attend.
Federation Senior Vice President Natasha Watt will be a keynote speaker at the Sydney rally.
Members wanting to attend this event should meet at Belmore Park, opposite Central Station, for a 2pm start. For members in the Illawarra, a simultaneous rally will be held outside Wollongong Town Hall.
Peaceful and prosperous communities and nations are built upon the foundations of quality education. Governments must be held to account when policies deny all children the opportunity to flourish.
Join us as we gather on Palm Sunday to voice our support for peace.
