OTEN TAFE teachers stop work Posted: 12 May 2008
TAFE Teachers from Western Sydney Institute's Strathfield Branch met with Ms Virginia Judge, Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Training, this morning at 11 am. The delegation of OTEN teachers raised three important issues. These were the downgrading of teacher qualifications to a Certificate 4; the latest instalment of Doing Business in the 21st Century and the increase in TAFE student fees. [ READ MORE ]

TAFE teachers protest rally today Posted: 08 May 2008
TAFE teachers will demonstrate outside the NSW Department of Education and Training, Farrer Place, Bent Street, Sydney at 12.30pm today over the State government's attempts to downgrade TAFE. The government has increased TAFE student fees; moved to downgrade the teacher education qualifications for TAFE teachers and is pushing through a disastrous restructure of TAFE under the mantra of doing business in the 21st Century. TAFE student fees campaign launched Posted: 03 December 2007
The NSW Government has proposed to increase TAFE fees by around 9% in 2008, despite an undertaking by a previous Education Minister that fees from 2004 onwards would only increase by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The Teachers Federation has launched a community campaign through the I support TAFE website, opposing the proposed fees increase. [ READ MORE ]

Stop work action will continue this week at Griffith, Bega, Moruya, Ulladulla and Nirimba TAFE Colleges to protest fee increases of 9% from 2008, imposed by the NSW Government on TAFE students, despite a commitment in 2004 (after introducing fees) that only CPI increases would occur from that point. New TAFE Federal election site launched Posted: 13 October 2007
A new I Support TAFE website has been launched to coincide with the Federal election. The site includes the National TAFE Claim on Federal and State governments of the Australian Education Union. The AEU estimates that an additional $470 million, minimum, is required in 2008 to fund TAFE to address the skills crisis across Australia. [ READ MORE ]

Joe Hockey greeted by unions protest Posted: 11 October 2007
Over 70 protesters from the NSW Teachers Federation, Public Service Association, Transport Workers Union and concerned members of the community chanted 'WorkChoices, No Choices' as Federal Minister for Industrial Relations, Joe Hockey, arrived at Ultimo TAFE this morning to launch an online package aimed at young workers for the Workplace Authority.
