Applications now open!

Applications are now open for the Federation’s Principals’ Conference to be held on Friday 5 May at Federation House in Surry Hills. All Principal members are encouraged to apply.

This conference is a great opportunity for Principals (including Relieving Principals) to hear important updates from the Federation, network with colleagues, and engage with a range of speakers and workshops.

Following a change of Government at both the Federal and State levels since last year’s Principals’ Conference, we will be hearing from both the Hon Jason Clare, Federal Minister for Education and the Hon Prue Car, NSW Minister for Education and Early Learning. This will be an important opportunity to hear from Ministers for Education on how they intend to work with the teaching profession, and Principals in particular, to deliver improvements in education policy that meet the needs of our school communities.

Leslie Loble AM, an Industry Professor and Paul Ramsay Fellow at the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion at the University of Technology Sydney, and a former Deputy Secretary of the NSW Department of Education, will address the conference on her work, How might AI-enabled education technology be leveraged to reduce the learning chasm which far too often leaves certain students behind? AI technology is an area of significant growth and massive private investment, posing significant, almost unfettered challenges and opportunities for schools and we will need a sophisticated response to ensure that our students’ learning remains at the heart of any use of such technology.

Workshops and additional speakers will address a range of topics, including:

  • Aboriginal Education and Federation advice around Staff Development Day requirements
  • Voice, Treaty, Truth: Supporting school communities through the Referendum on the Voice
  • PES investigation procedures: legal and professional support and advice available through the Federation
  • Working with your local Federation Organiser and Federation support for Principal members
  • Keeping our public schools secular
  • Support for rural and remote schools
  • And more

Federation covers travel and accommodation for Principals attending from outside of Sydney (in accordance with the Federation’s Travel and Accommodation policy). Teaching Principals attending the conference can also apply for Federation to cover the cost of a casual replacement for the day.

Any questions regarding the conference can be addressed to tut@nswtf.org.au or 9217 2460.
