Federation’s campaign to win two additional hours of release time each week for teachers is officially underway. The campaign is calling for: two hours of additional preparation time per week for all teachers, additional preparation time for primary school executives equivalent with their secondary executive colleagues, increased preparation time for small school principals (minimum 50 per cent reduction in face-to-face teaching time).
This campaign is a once in a generation chance to secure full funding of public schools.
The needs of Australia’s children are growing but the funding from governments hasn’t kept up.
Right now, 98% of public schools are resourced below the Schooling Resource Standard (SRS) which is the minimum amount governments have agreed that they need.
Full funding for public schools is the only way to ensure every child gets every opportunity to succeed. It means more one-on-one support for children, more time for teachers and better results.
Annual Conference 2024 endorsed the development of a strategic and targeted campaign to encompass all aspects of teachers’ work, informed by school and statewide data, including a central campaign website with a repository of resources.
Now, more than ever, Australians need TAFE, our strong, trusted and public vocational education system. Add your voice and tell the government to Rebuild with TAFE and invest in a positive future for all of us.
The union welcomes the State Government’s Review into NSW vocational education and training (VET), an opportunity to rebuild TAFE NSW. The Review’s Terms of Reference cover the critical issues to effectively review the failed Smart and Skilled contestable funding model of the previous government.
Federation has a proud history of campaigning to reverse patterns of social inequality. The union encourages you to join with your member colleagues to challenge inequities and be part of transformational change.
