Premier urged to demand that Federal Government fully funds Gonski agreement

The NSW Public Education Alliance has appealed to the NSW Premier to reject alternatives to the Gonski schools funding model.

The Alliance comprises the organisations representing the parents, citizens, principals and teachers of NSW public schools.

In a letter sent to the Premier yesterday, the Alliance asks Ms Berejiklian to act on her supportive public statements about securing the Gonski needs-based funding model, and demand that the Federal Government honour its obligations under the NSW Gonski agreement.

“We urge that this position be put by you and NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes at any events prior to and after the 9 May Federal Budget, including meetings of the Education Council and the Council of Australian Governments,” the letter states.

Signatories assured Ms Berejiklian that such action would be “widely respected and greatly valued”.

A copy of the letter has been emailed to NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes, who will be attending the Education Council meeting in Hobart tomorrow. Federation President Maurie Mulheron will attend Australian Education Union campaign events associated with this meeting.
