Expert to present NAPLAN report at public lecture

A world leader in writing assessment theory and practice, Dr Les Perelman, will outline his findings on the NAPLAN writing task at a public lecture on Friday, 4 May at 6pm.

The former Director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has been commissioned by Federation to develop an academic paper to contribute to the debate about the existing NAPLAN assessment regime and replacing it with processes that are beneficial to all students and school communities, and respectful of teachers’ professional judgment.

His presentation will outline his findings into elements of NAPLAN, place its comparative standing in a global context, reveal how it engenders lower standards and manipulation. He also suggests possible new directions for the benefit of all. The lecture will be held in the NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre’s auditorium at 37 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills.
