Gun violence in schools was raised at the Australian Education Union’s annual federal conference, held recently in Melbourne.
A conference resolution states the Australian Education Union stands with the two large USA teacher unions, the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers, in opposing the arming of educators.
The AEU expresses solidarity and deep condolences to educators, students and their families affected by continuing gun violence, particularly in USA schools.
The resolution notes the courage and leadership shown by USA students in the gun violence debate in the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre.
