Fair Funding Now! national week of action to focus on community campaigning

Market stalls, P&C meetings and face-to-face conversations with parents and community members at the school gate will be the focus of a national week of action in the Fair Funding Now! campaign from 3-9 September.

The campaign continues to take its message to communities across the state to highlight concerns about the Turnbull Government’s schools funding plan.

The week of action seeks to build on the grassroots traditions of Federation’s community organising.

Fair funding for public schools has been a keenly discussed agenda item at P&C meetings around the state, where parents have been informed of the damaging consequences of the Federal Government’s decision to cap public school funding at 20 per cent of the schooling resource standard (SRS).

Members and supporters have been out on the campaign trail in recent weeks, hosting information stalls at P&C meetings, market stalls, community breakfasts and campaign meetings.

A recent community meeting in Bomaderry, in the federal target seat of Gilmore, included representatives from the Australian Council of Trade Unions, South Coast Labour Council and Unions Shoalhaven, who committed to campaigning in support of local public schools.

Similar community forums are being planned in other areas of the state with the intention of building strong support and campaigning links with other unions and community groups.

The national week of action will seek to take the campaign to all corners of the country with events planned for all areas of NSW.

The week of action will culminate on Sunday, 9 September, with a national doorknock in targeted electorates allowing campaign volunteers to further prosecute the case for Fair Funding Now! in their local community.
