Petition for new PM calls for fair funding

Sutherland Teachers Association and community members have hand-delivered a Fair Funding Now! petition to the electorate office of Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

The petition, delivered on 5 September, was signed by more than 11,000 people across Australia and reaffirmed, during the national week of action of the Fair Funding Now! campaign, to the newly formed Morrison Government that the public expects significant changes to the schools funding arrangements.

More than 35 teachers and community members gathered in the Cronulla Mall as Australian Education Union Federal President Correna Haythorpe handed the letter for Mr Morrison to Sutherland Teachers Association President Tim Mortimer. The letter was marched into Mr Morrison’s office.

As Mr Morrison makes his personal views on public schooling increasingly clear, Sutherland Teachers Association will continue to call for needs-based and sector-blind funding so that every school in Australia can meet the Schooling Resource Standard (SRS) benchmark by 2023.
