Peace competition provides chance for students to be creative and win

Time is running out for students to complete entries for the Sam Lewis Peace Awards.

Have you told your students about the competition, to interpret the theme “Peace: bringing us together and never apart”? Entries should reach the Federation by close of business on Friday 30 August.

The grand prize is worth $500. Further prizes are on offer in each division — K-2, 3-6, 7-10, 11-12 and TAFE — $200 for first place, $100 each for three runners-up and eight $25 merits.

Acceptable formats for entries include posters, poetry, short stories, performances or multimedia (PowerPoint/DVD/video). Also acceptable are entries that depict larger relevant projects that relate to the competition’s theme, for example: special events, special performances and special days. In general, essays should not exceed 1000 words. Performances and multimedia entries should be kept as brief as possible for judging purposes. For more details visit

In today’s world, peace may seem further away than ever but over many years the wonderful entries that students have provided for the Sam Lewis Peace Awards, which honours peace activist and former Federation President, have exemplified that the future generation holds great hope.
