TV host and tradie Scott Cam will be paid $345,000 (excluding GST) over 15 months for his role as National Careers Ambassador, while the Morrison government continues to undermine the TAFE system.
The report, released by the National Centre for Vocational Education (NCVER), showed that the latest Morrison Government funding cuts were equivalent to almost 11 per cent of total federal funding to the sector.
Despite the Federal Government refusing to reveal the cost of Scott Cam’s role when the appointment was announced in October, the cost to taxpayers became public during a Senate Estimates hearing on 5 December.

Australian Education Union Deputy President Maurie Mulheron said today that Mr Cam’s appointment was nothing more than a propaganda stunt from the Morrison Government, designed to camouflage the systemic cuts and deregulation that successive governments have presided over.
“This is pure propaganda,” he said. “There are 140,000 fewer apprentices now than when the Coalition was elected and $3 billion has been cut from vocational education funding.
“Mr Cam should seriously reconsider this appointment and reflect upon the ugly truth of the Morrison Government’s track record in relation to TAFE.”
Scott Cam’s appointment has also generated a response from members of the general public, with some community members taking to social media.
