Seminars planned for the holidays
A suite of casual teacher seminars for Federation members will be held in the school holidays this year.
They will be held during the school break periods to make attendance easier and more accessible for casual teachers. The seminars are designed specifically for casual teaching members who are interested in engaging in professional learning opportunities run by Federation.
Each day will be composed of two seminars, one in the morning and one in the mid-afternoon. Members who are interested in attending are encouraged to choose the seminar/s that are appropriate for their own professional development.
Completing one of the casual teacher seminars will contribute towards NESA-registered professional development, addressing descriptors from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient teacher accreditation in NSW.
The city-based seminars will be held at Federation House in Surry Hills, which is easily accessible by public transport.
SYDNEY
Wednesday, 22 April
- AM: Casual Teacher Performance and Development Framework training (2 hours)
- PM: Understanding the maintenance of accreditation (1.5 hours)
Friday, 17 July
- AM: Gaining and maintaining teacher accreditation (2 hours)
- PM: Engaging students as a casual teacher (2 hours)
Tuesday, 29 September
- AM: Casual and temporary teacher seminar (2 hours)
- PM: Enhancing opportunities for employment in schools (2 hours)
REGIONS
Casual teacher seminars will be conducted in regional locations during the school breaks this year for the first time.
Regional seminars will consist of two 2-hour seminars, the first being casual teacher Performance and Development Framework training in the morning, and the second Working as a teacher and accreditation and maintenance at Proficient level with NESA in the afternoon.

- Wednesday, 30 September: Central Coast
- Thursday, 1 October: Newcastle
Local associations can also choose to conduct training for their members on an ad hoc basis by moving a motion at their local association meeting.
