Statement on Student Behaviour Strategy

The Department of Education recently released the new student behaviour strategy. It did so without any negotiation or consultation with the Federation.

As a result, Federation formally wrote to the Department on 24 August seeking an urgent meeting.

Having failed to respond the Federation has now formally raised the matter with the Minister.

Federation has sought the intervention of the Minister to instruct the Department to suspend the current four-week consultation period and called for a thorough examination of the student discipline policy in term 4.

At a time when teachers and principals are under immense pressure due to the enduring COVID -19 pandemic and the HSC period, to say the least, this blindsiding of the profession on a matter so critical, is disrespectful and contemptuous of the profession.
