TAFE Talk: Education Quarterly, Issue 10 2024
The Australian Education Union’s National TAFE Photo Competition was so successful in highlighting the amazing work of TAFE and its students and teachers last year that the photo competition has returned for 2024.
The theme for this year’s competition, “The Heart of TAFE”, aims to shine a light on the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere, the world-class facilities and the high-quality vocational education TAFE provides. Judges will be looking for outstanding, well-crafted and creative photographs — either natural or staged — that portray the vibrancy of life at TAFE in 2024.
Entries are open now and will close at 5 pm, 22 July 2024.
Each state-based winner will win $1000 and a trip to Canberra for National TAFE Day, Tuesday 10 September 2024, where their work will be displayed in an exhibition. The national winner will win $5000 and publication in the TAFE Teacher magazine.
The competition is open to currently enrolled TAFE students only, with the intent of helping those students generate portfolio content. Members are encouraged to help promote the competition and support students to enter. More details are available online.
The NSW section of the 2023 photo competition was won by a Granville TAFE business student Sakina, with a photo of her sister Selena studying in the college library (see advertisement on the inside back cover). Both Sakina and Selena attended June Council in 2023 to receive their certificate and NSW trophy. Sakina told AEU federal conference that her participation in the TAFE Photo Competition was life changing. She has since commenced a management position in the finance sector. The winning national image (pictured below) was taken by commercial cookery student Khanh Ngan Ho, from SuniTAFE, in Mildura, Victoria.
