Vacancy for Branch Executive 2026

Mr Neale Dawson, Special Counsel, NEW Law Pty Ltd, will be the Returning Officer for the election of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Executive.

Nominations

Nominations are hereby invited for the following positions:

  • Branch Vice Presidents (4)
  • Branch Custodians (2)
  • Aboriginal Member – Branch Executive member being a Branch Councillor who is a representative of members on the Aboriginal Members’ & Torres Strait Islander Member Roll (1)
  • Branch Association Representatives to Branch Executive (8)

Nominations must be in writing and may be made at any time from Monday, 1 December 2025.

Candidates must be financial members of the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Council as at 1 December 2025 and must be nominated by at least two financial members of the 2025 Branch Council.

A candidate may complete a statement in support of candidature which will be compiled and distributed with the ballot paper. The statement should be no more than 400 words and may include a passport-sized photograph. The candidate’s statement should be typed in no less than a 12-point font and attached to their nomination.

As well, the candidate must provide a word file as an attachment to an email sent to ReturningOfficer@newlaw.com.au marked to the attention of the Returning Officer. This file will be used to create candidate statements that will be provided to voters on the day of the election.

Candidates should read and understand Federation’s Conflict of Interest and Disclosure of Material Personal Interests Policy, and the role this policy plays in relation to Branch Executive positions. Those members standing for the position of Custodian should read the Role of the Custodian.

Close of Nominations

Completed nomination forms and candidate statements must be received by the Returning Officer not later than noon on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. At the close of nominations, where the Returning Officer considers that any nomination is defective, they will immediately notify the person concerned. Any defects in a nomination or candidate statement must be rectified by the candidate not later than noon on 10 February 2026.

Should more than the required number of nominations be received for each or any position, a draw will be conducted to determine the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper at NEW Law on 11 February 2026.

Voting

Any ballot will be conducted at the Australian Education Union NSW Teachers Federation Branch Council on Saturday, 14 February 2026. There will be no candidate speeches. However, candidates will address Council by giving their name and Association (and country upon which that Association is located).

The ballot will be conducted by Neale Dawson, Returning Officer, NEW Law Pty Ltd.

The method of voting to be observed for this election will be exhaustive preferential. All squares must be numbered.
